Odd Fellows are a "secret society" because we preserve and participate in a series of meaningful rituals that instill the values of friendship, love, and truth. There is mystery to our rituals and ways by design. Becoming an Odd Fellow is a covenant to respect and help your brothers and sisters, and to extend those same ideals to our greater communities.
We strive to improve and elevate the character of humankind by promoting the principles of friendship, love, truth, faith, hope, charity and universal justice.
We help make the world a better place to live in, by aiding each other, the community, the less fortunate, the youth, the elderly, and the environment in every way possible.
We promote good will and harmony amongst peoples and nations through the principle of universal fraternity, holding the belief that all men and women regardless of race, gender, nationality, sexuality, religion, disability, social status, rank and station are brothers and sisters.

The exact date of the first founding of Odd Fellowship is lost in antiquity. Some historians trace its roots back to the Medieval Trade Guilds of the 12th and 13th Centuries. Others estimated that it existed before 1650. What is clear is that there were a number of Odd Fellow groups in England in the 1700.
While several Odd Fellow lodges had existed in New York City sometime in 1806 to 1818, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows was officially organized on April 26, 1819 in Baltimore, Maryland, by Thomas Wildey and four other members of the fraternity from England.
Since then, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows had spread throughout the world where it currently have about 10,000 Lodges located in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Belize, Canada, Chile, Cuba, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Poland, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay, Ukraine and Venezuela.
